Bhubaneswar, September 17 (LocalWire): The state Higher Education Department has announced that the government has decided to upgrade the status of Kalahandi and Bolangir universities to affiliated universities.
The Rajendra Autonomous College, Bolangir and the Government Autonomous College at Bhawanipatna were granted unitary university status on 2 and 6 March this year, respectively.
“These two new universities will no more be unitary in nature. Instead, they will have several colleges under them.
The department’s proposal in this regard has been approved by the chief minister Naveen Patnaik,” a department official said.
As per the approved proposal, 65 colleges of Bolangir and Subarnapur districts would now function under the administrative jurisdiction of the new Bolangir University, while 50 colleges in Kalahandi and Nuapada districts would come under the new Kalahandi University.
These 115 colleges were so far under the Sambalpur University.
“The approved proposal will come in handy for students in these districts.
Besides, it will also ease the administrative work burden of Sambalpur University,” the official stated.
