Bhubaneswar, June 15 (LocalWire): The state government has now planned to add 20 crore man days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment General Scheme (MGNREGS).
This comes at a time when a number of skilled and semi skilled migrant labourers from the state have come back to the state after their employment opportunity sank in other states.
“Odisha Government has targeted to generate 20 crore mandays under MGNREGS to provide livelihood for migrant workers who have recently returned to the state.
To achieve this, the government has targeted to take up digging of more than 1.3 lakh ponds,” a statement from the Information and Public Relations department said.
The government claimed that close to 5.5 Odia migrants have returned to the state after the partial lockdown relaxations were granted in the country.
“Odia brothers and sisters are returning to Odisha every day since May 3.
A total of 4968 Odia people returned to the state yesterday. So far, 5,43,905 Odias have returned home,” the department said.
