Bhubaneswar, August 19 (LocalWire) The state tourism department has begun the process to develop tourism infrastructure in five locations along Puri-Konark marine drive road by seeking clearances of nearly 39 acres of land parcels in the area.
Out of the five identified places, three land parcels are in Konark (Lotus Resort area, Lotus Resort Boat Ghat, Lighthouse), one in Astarang and another one is situated at Ramachandi temple totaling 38.91 acres of land parcels.
“After the clearances are obtained we will develop hotels, resorts and other tourism facilities at these sites,” said U K Pati, joint director with the tourism department.
The identified land parcels are owned by the state government but need clearances from different agencies such as forest department, state and national wildlife board and coastal regulation zone along with district land clearance committee.
The department has sought to engage an agency to help obtain clearance from various offices and departments in state and national level.
Some of the land parcels may get quick clearances probably in a few months, while some other might take a longer time based on layers of clearances needed.
The department will entertain investment application as and when clearances are obtained for individual land parcels, said an official with direct knowledge of the matter.
“This process (of seeking clearances) has nothing to do with investors’ application as there is none as of now. We can permit clearance to investors under single window system quickly,” the official said without divulging much details of tourism investment intention in the area.
In November 2018, during the ‘Make in Odisha’ conclave, the state had received major tourism infrastructure investment proposals from leading companies.
Among them, IntelliStay Hotels, which operates the Mango brand chain, in collaboration with the Grand Mark Infrastructures, had reaffirmed its plan to set up two-star category hotels catering to MICE tourism with 250 keys and 55 keys at Bhubaneswar and Konark respectively.
The company also has plans to develop eco-resorts at select locations in the state.
The total investment committed by the company is approximately Rs 100 crore.
