Bhubaneswar, December 23 (LocalWire) : Odisha government has constituted help desks in five States to come to the aid of migrant workforces from the State.
The State government-monitored Help desks have been established in the States of Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana to help out the Odia migrant workers from distressed condition, Odisha labour minister Susanta Singh said here today.
Tales of torture of distress migrant workers are trickling every year in every year at periodic intervals. That’s why; help desks have come up in these States, which are favoured destinations of Odia migrant labourers.
The State government has rescued large number of distressed workers by taking up their plight with due cooperation of State counterparts in accordance with interstate migrant labour act, he said without elaborating the exact number of rescued labourers.
11 districts-Bolangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Subrnapur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Khordha-were identified as migration prone zones in the State. Of which, Bolangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi are the worst affected by the yearly exodus of human resources to other parts of the country.
The migration-affected areas have been brought under orbit of the special work plan initiated by the government to curb labour migration. 206 seasonal hostels for children of migrating families have also been set up in different migration prone GPs. While the government puts the distress migration figure at 1.30 lakh, the actual figure could go up by ten-fold, according to civil society groups.
