Bhubaneswar, 21(LocalWire) A day after ordering probe into the alleged acts of omission and commission in the directorate of fire services, Odisha government on Thursday effected the overhauling of the fire safety directorate by shifting officers holding key posts to other place of posting.
A three-member inquiry committee headed by the Chief Secretary had been constituted yesterday to probe into the circumstances for the inordinate delay for issuance of fire safety certificates to the applicants by the directorate.
The outgoing DGP Bijoy Shama was officiating as director fire services when the alleged irregularities had been perpetrated.
Maheswar Swain, Chief Fire Safety Officer, Orissa Fire and Disaster Response Academy was holding the additional charge of Chief Fire Officer, fire prevention wing of the directorate of fire services was withdrawn with immediate effect, according to a notification issued today by the home department.
Arun Kumar Sarangi, Deputy Fire Officer, Fire Prevention wing of the directorate, Cuttack was removed from his post and was transferred to Kalahandi district.
Two officers who held the key posts that issues fire safety certificates. Both were accused of deliberately delaying the fire safety applications in connivance with fire directorate higher-ups, said sources.
“It is reported that there is huge pendency of applications for issuance of fire safety recommendations and certificates in the directorate of fire services.
This had caused immense inconvenience not only to the general public but also to business, industry, educational and medical establishments”, the home department’s notification issued yesterday noted.
