Bhubaneswar, Nov 28 (LocalWire): Orissa Human Rights Commission has ordered the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes’ development department to provide a pucca house to a 14-year-old student who was raped and impregnated by the headmaster of a state-run tribal residential school in Koraput district, officials said.
The minor, who was a resident of the government-run Ashram school in Nandpur block, gave birth to a baby girl on 12 December, 2018.
The headmaster had earlier been arrested and removed from his job after the sexual escapade.
Acting on a petition moved by Rights activists Bijoy Kumar Panda and Biswapriya Kanungo, the Rights panel had earlier ordered payment of Rs 4.65 lakh compensation to the rape survivor.
The OHRC in a ruling yesterday asked the department to allot a pucca house to the victim within six months.
Earlier, responding to OHRC’s order, the SC, ST development department had disbursed Rs 1.65 lakh to the victim’s parents and Rs 3 lakh was also deposited in the bank account of the victim.
The sum could be withdrawn by the victim after she attains adulthood.
