Bhubaneswar, April 9 (Local Wire): The state government on Thursday said that it will penalise the erring citizens who defy the orders of mandatory use of masks while venturing out.
Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy in a media briefing said that the state government has now made not wearing masks in public places an offence.
The official also said that it has brought an ordinance to increase the penalty for violation of rules put forth to combat COVID 19.
“We have brought an ordinance and amended the Epidemic Act. We have increased the punishment for breaking COVID 19 rules.
Now violation of the rules can lead upto two years of imprisonment and fine upto to Rs 10,000,” he said.
He also said that not-wearing masks will also attract monetary penalty.
“For first three instances Rs 200 will be levied from the defaulters while after that they have to pay Rs 500,” he said.
