Balangir, Dec 8 (LocalWire) Rajendra College, one of the premier educational institutions of Odisha, is set to celebrate its Platinum Jubilee in grand style.
Ahead of the mega event from December 27 to 31, a ‘Pathoustav’ (street play) was organised here today with people, students and ex-student of the college, which has since become an university, joining a cultural extravaganza that covered the distance from Rajendra College chowk to Rajendra College.
Artists Basudev Meher and Ratan Meher inaugurated the cultural functions.
Sand artists of Dhol Nissan and Tasha, King Kansa moving with his ministers, Dlakhai dance, Danda Nacha and other troupes exhibited their performance while body builders flexed their muscle and martial arts demonstrated their technique on the occasion.
College students staged street play on different social issues including crime against women where as school students drew roadside painting giving a vivid look to the entire route.
The ambiance reverberated to the lilting sounds of different cultural programmes.
“For a moment it appeared that the entire Balangir town is rocking on the Sunday morning.
A total of 39 troupes participated in the Pathoustav. This is the trailer (beginning) and the theater (main function) will be gorgeous one”, an organiser said.
The Vice President, M Venkaiah Naidu is scheduled to inaugurate the platinum jubilee celebrations of the college on December 27.
“After the function, efforts should be made to make Rajendra College an excellent educational institution”, said Arbinda Das.
“The college has so far produced over 55,000 students.
We appeal the people and ex-students to join the platinum jubilee celebrations of the alma mater”, said Lalit Nayak.
