Baripada, Feb 13 (LocalWire):-The Baripada Police on Thursday arrested a grocery shopkeeper for allegedly selling duplicate mustard oil.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Sahoo (36).
Police said some people purchased mustard oil from his grocery shop at Gandhi Market on Wednesday and they came back to return the bottles as they had a foul smell.
A few customers called the Police Control Room (PCR) van and verbally informed about it.
Around 9:30 P.M., the police took Sahoo to the police station.
Sahoo, the shop owner said that there are a number of new oil companies which have been supplying their products to the market.
As a shopkeeper, he had been trading various types of products. He also said that he would give whatever details the police need in this matter, but he does not know whether the seized oil is original or duplicate.
When contacted, the Baripada IIC Birendra Senapati said that at least 10 such bottles of mustard oil weighing 200 grams each have been seized.
The Additional SP of Mayurbhanj, Abhimanyu Nayak, said that a case under section 420 and 272 of IPC has been registered.
The seized oil bottles will be sent for testing to ascertain whether the oil was original or duplicate.
Duplicate oil and spices are being traded rampantly across the district. No regular check has been carried out by authorities.
