Berhampur, Sept 24 (LocalWire): A groom and his father were arrested by the police on Wednesday from Agakia village under Kandhamal district’s Baliguda police station limits for violating the safety protocol during a marriage function.
Nakula Mallick, 25, and his father Parameswar, 55, were arrested for organizing a feast with a gathering of around 300 people in the village, for a marriage function, without taking any permission from the competent authorities as per the COVID-19 regulations, police said.
According to the state government’s COVID regulations, a maximum of 50 people can participate in a marriage function, while strictly adhering to social distancing norms and wearing masks with prior permission from the authorities.
“Acting on a tip off, we rushed to the spot and disbursed the people who had gathered there.
People were seen dancing at the place without masks,” said inspector in-charge Baliguda Prasant Kumar Behera.
Police, however, released the duo on bail after serving them a notice, he said.
“We will not allow any violations of regulations and stringent action will be taken against the violators,” police said.
