Jagatsinghpur, Sept 5 (LocalWire): Irate students and their guardians demonstrated in front of Model School at Salajanga under Jagatsinghpur block protesting the lack of infrastructure and teaching staff in the school affecting the Teachers Day programme scheduled in the school.
Out of the eight blocks, only one model school under Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV) scheme has opened at Salijanga under Jagatsinghpur block in June 2018 but the school is functioning without adequate infrastructure and basic facilities.
The scheme aims to start schools with infrastructure and other facilities at par with the Kendriya Vidyalayas to provide English medium education under the CBSE curriculum but incidentally, this school has no English teacher affecting the studies in the subject.
This hostel is also not complete yet and students have to commute daily six kilometers from the block headquarters.
Despite lack of infrastructure, total 204 students from far-flung areas are forced to make their own arrangements.
Posting of English subject teachers is yet to be done and as a stopgap arrangement, the BEO has been given additional charge of Principal to run the school.
Besides this, the Model School has no computer teacher, no principal, no junior clerk, cycle stand or play ground.
Due to negligence of higher officials and unavailability of land model schools could not be opened in the other seven blocks of this district.
In Charge Principal Samir Das confessed ‘as there is no English teacher, students and guardians demonstrated today.
They also served a notice to close the school by locking the main gate from tomorrow for an indefinite period if their demands are not being fulfilled.
I have sought the intervention of higher authorities about the situation.’
