Berhampur, August 4 (LocalWire): Police today arrested seven people in two different incidents for manufacturing gutkha illegally in and around the Silk City and seized huge quantities of the banned product and the manufacturing
Police arrested a father-son duo Narayan Sahu and Kishan Sahu and their partner Sarat Sahu after raiding the gutkha units at Borigaon and Bhutapalli villages.
Last night, said SDPO, Berhampur Sadara, Jayant Kumar Mohapatra.
Three mixture machines, packing machines and huge quantities of gutkha packets, empty packets, raw materials along with a mini-truck were seized.
Police also raided Sarat Sahu’s gowdowns at Kalupatra Street and seized huge quantities of gutkha, stocked to be transported to different places, the SDPO said.
In another incident, police unearthed another illegal gutkha manufacturing unit at Saguna Street under Berhampur Bada Bazar police station limits.
Four persons were arrested, including the owner of the unit and several quantities of gutkha and manufacturing machines, worth over Rs 1.60 lakh seized.
The state government had imposed ban on selling and manufacturing of gutkha from 1 January, 2013.
