Kendrapara, Feb 7 (LocalWire): The 82 kilometre-long railway line from Haridaspur to Paradip covering Jajpur, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts is likely to be completed by March, 2020 following which the first goods train will roll out in the Kendrapara district for the first time.
This much-awaited railway line will bring Kendrapara district on the railway map. Started in November 2019, the project has been considerably delayed past its previous deadlines.
“We have already completed 95% of the work. The installation of signboards, telecommunication systems, construction of railway level crossing have been completed,” said Prasant Kumar Mishra, the Managing Director of Haridaspur – Paradip Railway line Project.
Mishra added, “We built 31 bridges over rivers and canals and 171 minor bridges for this railway project.
This railway line was sanctioned in 1996-97, primarily to cater to the export of products of the steel plants and imported cooking coal from Paradip to the industries. The industries located in Dubai and the iron ore deposits in Keonjhar district are in proximity to this railway line.”
On 4th April 1999, the then Railway Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of the railway line near Marshaghai of Kendrapada district. He had promised to complete the construction work by the year 2004.
After the completion of the project, the distance between Daitari- Banspani iron ore belt and Paradip port via railways will be reduced almost by half.
Due to the negligence on the part of the authorities, the project was delayed by more than 21 years, alleged Biswanath Behera, the Vice-President of the Kendrapada Citizens Forum.
The Union Government has recently allotted Rs100 crores for this project.
