Cuttack, Nov 1 (LocalWire) The Orissa High Court Bar Association will hold its emergency general body meeting today apparently to resolve the deadlock arising out of the over a fortnight long cease-work stir by the lawyers.
The lawyers of the high court have resorted to cease-work agitation since October 14 to register their protest against recommendation by the Supreme Court collegium for appointment of judges to the high court.
There is every likelihood of the strike being called off today with adoption of an unanimous resolution in this regard.
The agitation had drawn the ire of the apex court which had earlier observed that ‘this can hardly be a ground for lawyers to abstain from work. The conduct of the agitating lawyers fell within the domain of contempt of court”.
The Supreme Court’s stricture apart, the Bar Council of India (BCI) had also directed the HC lawyers’ body to withdraw from the agitation path with immediate effect.
