Cuttack, Nov 1 (LocalWire): The stalemate in the Orissa High Court was resolved today with lawyers deciding to withdraw their ongoing strike.
The Orissa High Court Bar Association held an emergency general body meeting today and unanimously decided to call off the strike and join the HC proceedings from 4 November, said office bearers of the High Court bar association.
The lawyers of the High Court resorted to cease work since 14 October to register their protest against recommendation by the Supreme Court collegium for appointing judges to the High Court.
The agitation had drawn the ire of the Apex court which had earlier observed that ‘this can hardly be a ground for lawyers to abstain from work.
The conduct of agitating lawyers falls within the domain of contempt of court.’
The Supreme Court’s stricture apart, the Bar Council of India had also directed the HC lawyers’ body to withdraw their agitation with immediate effect.
