Cuttack, March 14 (LocalWire): The Orissa High Court has quashed a case involving a ‘casteist remark’ by Paradip MLA and ex-BJD leader Damodar Rout at a rally some 8 years ago.
The case relates to his alleged “Harijan” remark during a gathering at Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district in 2010. Manoj Bhoi, a local, had then brought a police complaint against him.
Rout had moved the HC seeking dismissal of the case.
It was alleged that Rout had referred three people, without taking their names, as “Harijans”.
“While hearing the case, Justice A.K. Mishra quashed the entire proceedings. We put forward the stand that the FIR lodged against the statement did not attract SC/ST Act, following which the Court quashed the case,” said Rout’s lawyer Debasish Chhotray on Wednesday, OTV reported.
