Bhubaneswar, August 2(LocalWire) The High Court of Orissa has yet again upbraided the state government for delay in probing two-year old rape and suicide case of a minor girl from Kunduli and has fixed a deadline of four-weeks to complete the task.
If the state fails to do so within the prescribed time limit, then a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising two central and one state level officials would be formed, the top state court said in its order.
The next hearing for this case has been fixed for September 4.
The infamous Kunduli case dates back to October 10, 2017 when a minor girl had alleged that ‘four persons in uniform’ had raped her. Later, as the investigation did not pick up pace, the girl committed suicide.
The High Court in 2018 had also asked the state government to furnish all the information related to the investigation and submit status report on the probe.
The state government had asked for a court-monitored probe or an SIT to investigate the issue. Later, the state government ordered the police crime branch to carry on with the investigation.
A year later, hearing the pleas filed by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kharabela Swain and mother of the girl, the court has asked the state government investigating agency to wind up the probe.
