Berhampur, October 3 (Local Wire) Several philatelists displayed collections on the Father of Nation at a special philatelic exhibition to mark the Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday.
Berhampur Postal Division organized the philatelic exhibition on the Gandhian theme.
Philatelists and school children visited the head post office, the venue of the exhibition.
Stamps on display included the maiden stamp on Mahatma Gandhi that was released on August 15, 1948 that was priced at Rs 10.
“I have been collecting several postal stamps issued by other countries like Mauritius, Zambia, Scotland on Mahatma Gandhi,” said Pramod Kumar Saraf, a stamp exhibitor.
A postage stamp on Gandhi created from khadi is one of my favorite collections, said K.Venkat Rao, a businessman.
The stamp on khadi (cloth) was introduced in 2011.
The stamp has been priced Rs 250 for a premium limited edition in a miniature sheet format.
India never issued any stamp on any material other than on paper.
In other countries, materials like silk gold and diamonds have been used to make a stamp.
