Bhubaneswar, Dec 3 (LocalWire): The state health and family welfare department failed to spend money allocated to it during 2017-18 for various health schemes.
The huge sum remained unutilized and was later surrendered, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) latest audit report.
‘The surrender of entire provision indicated failure on the part of the department for its proper utilization. As a result, the objectives of the schemes and programmes for which the funds were provided for, could not be achieved,’ the report noted.
While Rs 30 crores were allocated to purchase material and equipment for malaria eradication programme, Rs 38.30 crores were earmarked for the purchase of contraceptives, equipment and medicine and for other schemes.
But the sum remained idle and was subsequently surrendered by the department to the government, the report said.
Officials of health and family welfare department refused to comment.
