Bhubaneswar, August 13 (LocalWire): With heavy rain lashing Bolangir district, and rail tracks overflowing with stormwater, train services on Tuesday were badly hit in the region.
“As water is flowing over the track at many locations between Deogaon Road-Bargarh, Loisinga-Bolangir and Barpalli-Dnguripalli stations under Sambalpur-Titilagarh railway section, train services have been suspended temporarily keeping in view safety of the passengers. Train services will resume when the water level recedes,” Sambalpur Railway Division public relation officer Nihar Ranjan Mishra told the LocalWire.
The Sambalpur-Rayagada Express, Ajmer-Puri Express, and Ispat Express were halted at nearby stations because of the water-logging on the railway tracks. The railway authorities are looking after the 1,600 passengers who are stranded at the stations, he informed.
As heavy downpour has led to the submergence of tracks, at least six trains were either canceled or partially canceled in Sambalpur rail division.
Only after the intensity of rain recedes, the track situation will be examined for the resumption of normal train service, the official added.
