Bhubaneswar, Sept 17 (LocalWire): The State Meteorological Department has now predicted heavy rains in parts of Odisha from September 19 on account of development of low pressure area in the sea.
The department said that a low pressure area is forming at the Bay of Bengal which can lead to heavy to moderate rains in parts of Odisha from September 19 to September 20.
“A low pressure area is likely to develop over northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around September 20,” a statement from the Bhubaneswar Met Centre said today.
The department claimed that due to the sudden change in the sea heavy rainfall could be experienced on September 19 in some districts like-Malkangiri,Nabarangpur, Koraput and Rayagada districts.
On Saturday as per the department, some districts can see thunderstorms and lightning too. These included- Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi districts.
The department for September 20 predicted heavy rains in few places like Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack and Khurda districts.
The office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) meanwhile has asked the Collectors of affected districts to be ready for necessary actions and to be alert.
