Berhampur, April 21 (LocalWire): After completing elections in Ganjam district, the leaders of different political parties are now headed to other constituencies to campaign for their respective party candidates, where polls will be held in the third and fourth phases.
BJD’s state Vice president and former Union minister, Chandra Sekhar Sahu, is campaigning in Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency while senior leader and state’s food supply and consumer welfare minister Surya Narayan Patro is campaigning for party candidates in Keionjhar.
Sahu and Patro contested from Berhampur Lok Sabha and Digapahandi Assembly seats respectively, where the election completed in the first phase of polling on 11April.
‘We are free now and are thus campaigning for the party in other constituencies,’ said Sahu.
Similarly, Bikram Panda, who contested as an MLA in Berhampur with a BJD ticket headed for Khurda to hit the campaign trail and Srikant Sahu, MLA (Polasara), was going to Kendrapara after completing his election in the second phase on 18 April.
Hari Prasad Sahu, a BJD leader who was working for party candidate Latika Pradhan in Kabisurya Nagara rushed to Begunia to campaign for the candidate there.
Sahu, who was suspended from the party some years back, was recently welcomed to the party fold.
Subash Behera, Ganjam district zilla parishad chairman, who contested the Chhatrapur Assembly segment (reserved for the scheduled caste), for the first time, former MLA (Chhatrapur), Ashok Choudhury and Adikandha Sethi along with supporters are now campaigning for the BJD candidate from Begunia Assembly constituency.
Besides BJD, leaders of BJP in Ganjam district are also electioneering in the neighbouring district. BJP’s state secretary Bibhuti Jena was campaigning for the party candidate at Chilika Assembly constituency.
Jena, contested as MLA candidate from Goplapur segment went to Chilika after the completion of the first phase of election.
