Puri, April 2 (LocalWire): An exclusive public information center has been set up by the administration to help lakhs of devotees visiting the Jagannath temple here every year, a tourism official said on Tuesday.
The center, set up near the temple, will help tourists find useful information about the place, including lodging and fooding, as well as extend help in distress situations like thefts, lost belongings, or separation of family members in the crowd, said Rajendra Kumar Patra, the officer in-charge.
Puri hosts some 50 lakh tourists annually. The beach and the Jagannath temple are the main attractions.
“We get a lot of cases of family members getting lost in the crowd; however, we try our best to reunite them. Two personnel mend the centre between 7-10 am and 5-9 pm,” said Patra.
“In cases of missing children, we inform the child helpline and police,” he added.
Patra said that on an average the centre receives some 20 cases of separation of family members daily and around 100 cases of people washing ashore on festive occasions.
