Bhubaneswar, Feb 12 (Localwire): Hema Gamang, a former parliamentarian and wife of former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang, is all set to rejoin Congress.
She is currently in Delhi to meet senior leaders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to discuss her joining.
Talking to mediapersons at the national capital on Tuesday, the former MP said she had come to meet the senior party leaders to let them know about her willingness. “I held talks with some senior party leaders and I will meet some other leaders in this connection,” she said adding “I was in the Congress party in the past. There is nothing wrong in rejoining Congress.”
It will be a homecoming for the former Lok Sabha member if she rejoins the grand old party.
She had resigned from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in April last year.
She had joined the regional party just before the Assembly elections in 2014 and unsuccessfully contested as a BJD candidate from Laxmipur constituency.
Her husband and former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang is currently a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member.
He had quit the Congress in 2015. Shishir Gamang, her son, is also in the BJP.
Hema Gamang was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha in 1999 on a Congress ticket from Koraput parliamentary constituency.
