Berhampur, December 28 (Localwire): The ongoing Kalinga Herbal Fair has proved to be a big hit amongst the locals, with hundreds thronging the venue at Gopalpur-on-Sea to buy their quota of ayurvedic remedies that are part of India’s traditional medicine system.
The five-day herbal fair that commenced on Tuesday will come to close on Saturday.
The fair is being organised by the State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) in association with the Berhampur forest division to popularise Ayurved.
While the fair was earlier organised at Berhampur city, the administration decided to club it with the Gopalpur Beach Festival in 2019 to make it more attractive, sources said.
“It will not only promote the herbal products but also create awareness among the people about conservation of the medical plants,” Berhampur divisional forest officer (DFO) Amlan Nayak said.
He also informed that the duration of the fair was increased from three days to five days during the last couple of years since there was a craze among the people and a good demand for herbal and ayurvedic products.
“As many as 50 stalls have been installed in the fair. Our main objective is to promote herbal plantation, propagation about their medicinal values and to provide trade linkage and brand development through the fairs,” the DFO stated.
