Berhampur, Nov 20 (LocalWire): Forest personnel seized skins of barking deer and wild boar from Shankuru village under Ganjam district’s Buguda forest range while patrolling the area, said divisional forest officer, Ghumusar South Satya Narayan Dehuri.
He said forest personnel seized the hides from a bike while tracking the movement of elephants in the area.
But they could not nab the poacher, who fled. During patrolling, they also seized around 50 kg electric wires laid to kill wild boars and save standing crops. No one, however, was arrested, he added.
Dehuri said two herds of around 14 elephants are roaming the area.
Farmers complained of several acres of standing crops being destroyed by the jumbos.
He said forest staff are tracking the movements of elephants.
While one herd was camping near Balipadara area, the other herd was roaming in Manitara area.
‘We have advised locals not to venture near the elephants nor tease them,’ the DFO added.
