Balasore, Sept 5 (LocalWire): The Sadar police arrested two highway looters who were involved in hijacking a oil tanker and siphoning oil from it.
The accused have been identified as Kartik Chandra Behera of village Gandarda under Sadar police station limits and Sk Imran of Somnathpur village under Industrial police station.
Police seized Rs 1.78 lakh from their possession and 2 barrels containing 220 litres of diesel each, six empty barrels and a pick-up van from them.
Police had earlier found the empty, hijacked lorry near Bangiriposhi.
The accused were forwarded to court after being booked under Section 394 of IPC and 27 of Arms Act.
According to police, the accused hijacked the lorry travelling to Angul from Haldia of West Bengal near Nagram on 28 August after threatening the driver and helper.
They were masked and brandished a pistol. They took the helper and driver along with them and left them at Jamsola check gate.
The owner of the tanker Jogindra Prasad Shaw, later, lodged a complaint.
