Balasore, December 9 (LocalWire): Burdened by crop loss and debt a 40-year farmer of village Badapokhari in Oupada block here committed suicide by consuming poison.
The deceased Pradip Behera had consumed pesticide on Friday and succumbed on Sunday while he was being treated at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
He was initially taken to the Balasore District Headquarter Hospital and later shifted to Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
Behera had five-acre agriculture land and had sowed paddy as Kharif crop this year after availing a loan of Rs one lakh from local cooperative society.
He was disturbed ever since the crop was hit by the recent cyclone Bulbul.
On Friday he had a heated argument with his wife after returning from the field on the matter of crop loss and piling debt, and his inability to clear the loan, and later consumed pesticide, sources said.
He is survived by his wife and two minor daughters.
