Jajpur, May 25 (LocalWire): Police have arrested a 25-year-old man along with his parents for killing his newly wedded wife over dowry in Jayasunguda village of Jajpur district.
Husband of the deceased Mahesh Mallick, father-in-law Natabara Mallick (55) and mother-in-law Para Mallick (50) have been arrested in connection with the murder.
The murder took place on Friday night, just 12 days after the couple’s marriage.
Victim’s father Dinabandhu Jena, who hails from Sarangapur village, alleged that his daughter Chinu was tortured by her in-laws and husband over dowry.
Her body was found hanging from a tree near the house. According to police, an attempt was made to show it was a suicide.
“The body is replete with injury marks. Blood was oozing from her nose and other parts,” a police officer said, adding that the couple was married on May 12.
“Acting on the FIR, we have arrested all three accused persons under section 302 (murder), 498-A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and Dowry Prevention Act,” said Saroj Sahoo, in-charge of Dharmasala police station.
Meanwhile, police have sent the body to the district headquarters hospital at Jajpur for autopsy.
“We will know the exact cause of death only after the autopsy.
All three accused have been remanded to jail custody by a local court on Saturday,” said Sahoo.
