Bhubaneswar, June 25 (LocalWire): A State Level Consultation on Role of Media in Humanitarian Crisis was organised by the Inter Agency Group (IAG), Odisha in collaboration with the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) here on Monday.
The consultation aimed at developing awareness and collecting feedbacks and recommendations to improve the media coverage especially during emergency and develop a framework for effective coordination between the government machinery, development agencies, and the journalists.
Special Relief Commissioner and OSDMA Managing Director Bishnupada Sethi joined the event as the guest of honour and shared his views on the crucial role played by the media during the Cyclone Fani and other natural disasters in the state.
Former member Board of Revenue Dr Aurobindo Behera, and UNICEF Odisha chief of field office Dr Monica Nielsen attended the consultation as distinguished guests.
Many national and state level senior journalists including Manoranjan Mishra, Rajaram Satapathy, Sudhir Pattnaik, Jatindra Dash, Jajati Karan, Sahil Menghani, Ashok Pradhan, and Shubhendu Parth shared their experience of covering humanitarian crisis and the challenges faced by journalists.
The event brought together different stakeholders from media houses, senior government officials, INGOs and UN bodies to discuss how the government agencies, social organisations, and the media can collaborate to create awareness about disaster management and in the post-disaster rebuilding efforts.
