Jagatsinghpur April 5 (LocalWire): A forest department team today sealed two sawmills after raids in Balikuda police station area and seized huge quantity of wood.
Forest officials have received several complaints regarding illegal sale of timber as Balikuda and Erasama have become the hub of illegal timber trade.
Acting on tip off, forest officials raided the two saw mills that were running without a valid licence and seized machinery and timber from them.
Every wood-based industry has to obtain a license from the forest department for the machines it uses.
Kujang forest ranger, Pratap Mohanty said, ‘our team raided Madhuri Saw Mill and Manorama Saw mill under Balikuda police limit areas.
A huge quantity of timber along with machinery worth Rs 3 to 4 lakh for cutting the wood was seized from each depot. We have closed down both the saw mills and also registered a case against the owners’.
