Berhampur, August 9 (LocalWire): Ganjam Police today arrested 12 people, including owner of two crusher units operating at Mahuda and Kusumi under Digaphandi police station limits for continuing to illegally blast stone quarries.
Explosives that included 50 gelatin sticks, 85 detonators, six tractors, two trollies, three motorcycles, a compressore and a drilling machine were seized during the raids in the units said sub divisional police officer, Digapahandi, Surendra Nath Murmu.
Raids were conducted jointly by the police and Kukudakhandi tehsildar after getting reliable information about blasting in the areas. Earlier, police had raided the stone quarries near Aska, Tarsingi, Buguda and Digaphandi and seized huge quantities of explosive materials and arrested 16 people.
Police crackdown on illegal blasting was launched after two students were injured i on 20 July due to a blast. The students sustained injuries when they picked explosive materials from near the school, which was lying there after a stone quarry was blasted.
