Berhampur, September 10 (LocalWire): A 27-year old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws at Mansorekota under Ganjam district’s Gopalpur police station limits on Monday night.
The deceased, Nanu Das is the mother of a year old daughter and was married to a daily labourer wife of Tanu Das.
The police recovered her body that was lying in a pool of blood at her in-law’s house and sent it for a postmortem on Tuesday.
A case related to death due to dowry-related violence has been registered against the in-laws at the Gopalpur police station based on a complaint by Nanu’s mother Mamata Das.
According to the FIR filed by Mamata, her daughter was murdered by the in-laws as they could not meet their demands of an additional Rs 50,000 and more gold ornaments as dowry.
She also said that during the marriage of her daughter, about one-and-half years ago, they had given Rs 25,000 in cash and six tola gold ornaments.
“As we could not meet the demand, they tortured my daughter,” she alleged.
The police are investigating the matter and have detained the deceased’s husband for interrogation.
