Bolangir, Sept 22 (LocalWire): The recent sighting of an Indian gaur, locally called jungli podh or wild buffalo, in the forests on the outskirts of Bolangir town, has brought cheers among wildlife lovers here.
Wild buffaloes are shy but violent animals. When it gets food, water and shelter, it stays there. It turns wild if it comes in contact with humans directly, pointed out a local wild life lover here.
A wildlife enthusiast managed to take a photograph of the Indian gaur in the forest of Bolangir. It appears to be a young. Few months later villagers confirmed the movement of wild buffaloes.
However, wild buffaloes normally move in herds so a single wild buffalo needs further monitoring, pointed out a wildlife enthusiast.
Three years ago in the forest of Upparjhar, in Bolangir forest range, two wild buffaloes were sighted.
