Bhubaneswar, December 27 (LocalWire) Ace sprinter Dutee Chand on Friday said she is hopeful of 2020 bringing glory for the country by winning gold in Tokyo Olympics.
For the country’s fastest sprinter, 2019 year was a momentous and meaningful year with loads of success in track and fields.
The 23-year-old who hails from a poor cotton weavers’ family in the district of Jajpur said she ss not basking under the glory.
“Time has come for achieving what remains the ultimate dream of any athlete, to bring home gold medal for the country in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics”, Chand told LolcalWire in a telephonic conversation.
“God has been kind to me. I have achieved more than what I had ever dreamt of. Prayer and goodwill of Indians are with me” she added.
Chand said she has been rigorously practicing for six to seven hours religiously every day. “It’s all for the Olympic medal”, Chand who was named as Sportsperson of the Year 2019 by Vogue India said.
“Apart from the Olympic medal, my cherished dream is to set up a state-of-the-art academy for athletes in Odisha,” she said.
The sports has given me everything, I will have to give back to society. I am very optimistic Odisha will emerge as a churning ground of innumerable sporting talents in days to come”, Chand, country’s fastest sprinter currently, told LocalWire.
The year 2019 was eventful for her.
It was a matter of pride that she became the first Indian to win a gold medal in women’s 100-metre sprint at the 30th Summer University Games in Naples, Italy.
She topped all the national events winning gold medals this year.
However, she had stirred up a controversy by making same-sex relation public.
“I felt relieved by revealing my private life in public although critics, as a rule, threw sarcastic comments” she pointed out.
But it was refreshing to note that my fans, well-wishers, sports fraternity besides millions of sports lovers showered overwhelming praise on me. It simply instilled fresh impetus to my personality, she added.
Dutee said she plans to spend the new year in Odisha and will go to Lord Jagannath temple to invoke divine blessings for the realization of her Olympic gold dream.
