Berhampur, May 8 (LocalWire): After developing the aerosol box for intubation process, the government-run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here has now developed UVC sanitizer to protect the electronic gadgets like mobile phone, key-board, mouse and others from the novel coronavirus.
The UVC sanitizer can be used to eliminate pathogens from almost any device such as keyboard, mouse, mouse- pad, mobile phone, tableware, keys, glasses and other personal items, including coins.
“Germs and bacteria usually live on the surfaces, in our surroundings.
As the Covid-19 is spreading, we decided to develop the low cost UVC sanitizer to protect the personal items, including electronic gadgets from the killer virus,” Rajat Kumar Panigrahi said.
“UV lamp is a reliable, well-studied antimicrobial technology. It works primarily by destroying the DNA inside bacteria, viruses and fungi.
The high energy portion of UV spectrum called UV-C is most effective. The Covid-19 and other viruses can be destroyed by exposing them to UV light,” he said.
“We have developed the UVC sanitizer using the technology of the water purifier. While the box is of scrap material, an 11-watt ultraviolet bulb was used in the box.
Total cost of it was around Rs 1200,” he added. He, however, said that it had been developed for the personal use of the institute staff.
“We will seek permission from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for its commercial production. If the ICMR allows, we will produce it and supply to different organizations,” he added.
