Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (LocalWire): The number of people filing their Income Tax Returns (ITRs) has increased in the state in the last few years, the Finance Ministry data claimed.
The Ministry of Finance has now released the data of the Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card holders in the state and the number of people filling the Income Tax Returns.
The department said that the number of people who possess PAN cards in the state stands at 1,03,88,446 (1.03 crore).
According to the data furnished by the ministry, out of the 1.03 crore PAN holders only 10,29,404 had filed ITRs in the assessment year 2018-19.
However the number of ITR filers have increased over the years.
It was 7,09,926 in the 2015-16 assessment year.
The ministry claimed that it has reduced scrutiny of the ITRs significantly in the last few years.
As per the data given by the ministry, in Odisha, it had undertaken scrutiny of 0.46 per cent the total ITRs filed in 2015-16 assessment year which was reduced to 0.12 per cent in 2018-19 assessment year.
