Jagatsinghpur, May 1(LocalWire): The district administration held a review meeting on Tuesday on the preparedness of the district before Cyclone Fani hits the state on 3 May.
Collector Guha Poonam who chaired the meeting, directed all BDOs, tehsildars, executive officers of Paradip and Jagatsinghpur municipality and other officials to shift the people living in the 938 villages in eight blocks of the district, identified as cyclone-prone, to cyclone shelters, identified schools and anganwadi centres as preventive measure.
The administration has asked all employees on leave to immediately rejoin their duties in view of the warning issued by the IMD. Senior officers have been asked to remain in their respective areas till the situation is normalised.
All cyclone shelters including 45 multipurpose cyclone shelters and schools and aganwadi centers have been readied and the administration was fully geared to meet any eventuality.
The BDO and tehsildars have been asked to keep their offices open all day and supply dry food like puffed rice, parched rice, jaggery and open free kitchen for the affected people.
The administration has also interacted with village committees, sarpanchs and members of the gram panchyats and advised them to cooperate with the officials in implementing the relief measures. They have been ordered to stock medicine, safe drinking water, boiled water, ORS powder.
They have also been asked to take special care of people with disabilities and pregnant women.
Fire brigade has been advised to be ready to ensure quick removal of debris and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
