Jagatsinghpur, July 27 (LocalWire): Following the Supreme Court order banning slaughter of animals in open space, the district administration today inaugurated a new slaughterhouse at Krushak bazaar in Chatra.
Since there was no slaughterhouse in Jagatsinghpur town, mutton vendors were slaughtering goats at the Krushak Bazar fish market in open space in violation of the directive from the apex court.
This also caused problems of cleanliness with the drainage getting clogged leading to serious concern among the local people.
Realizing the problem, the local administration decided to set up a slaughterhouse at Krushak Bazar.
Built at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, the new slaughterhouse has ten rooms and the Jagatsinghpur Municipality Authority will provide this space to the local mutton vendor on a rental basis.
According to the directives from the district administration, beginning 1 August 2019, mutton stall owners will slaughter goats and sell mutton only from this house.
The inauguration function was attended by the local legislator Prasant Muduli and the district collector Sangram Keshari Mohapatra.
