Jagatsinghpur, August 31 (LocalWire): The district police have announced that all 15 police stations in Jagatsinghpur have now been linked with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal enabling it to check cyber crimes immediately.
Sources said that there has been an increase in cyber crime cases, particularly voice phishing or vishing, a criminal practice of cheating using landline and mobile phone to gain access to personal and financial information from the public and using it for financial fraud, including withdrawing money from victim’s account through various methods.
The district has been reporting many such cases of fraud withdrawal on a daily basis.
Due to the rise in cyber crime, the Ministry of Home Affairs had launched the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal for use by the general public.
The portal enables people who have faced online abuse and are victims of cyber crimes like financial frauds to register their complaints on a real-time basis.
It also gives access rights to banks on the portal to address cases of fraudulent transactions online enabling the concerned bank to take immediate action.
According to the Jagatsinghpur superintendent of police Prakash R, “There are 15 police stations including 11 territorial police stations, three marine police stations and one energy police station in the district.
All these 15 police stations have been linked with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and IICs of the concerned police stations have been engaged as nodal officer for proper operationalisation and success of this portal.”
Sources also disclosed that additional steps have been taken to engage district nodal officer and one team having knowledge of cybercrime has been pressed into service to act as the support system at the district level and at the police station for handling the cybercrime complaints from today.
