Jagatsinghpur, Feb 15 (LocalWire): At least 30 poor families under the Jadatira Panchyat have not yet received financial assistance of Rs 2000 each for the cremation of their dead under the Harischandra Sahayata Yojana.
Jadatira Manoj Nath, Sarat Nath, Natabar Gochyat and others villagers have alleged that the funds have been misappropriated by the Panchayat officials.
One social activist Debasish Sharma of Jadatira told LocalWire that the Right To Information has exposed a large number irregularities in this scheme.
It has been found that one Nisamani Nath, who is actually alive, has been declared dead on paper and a sum of Rs 2000 has been misappropriated in her name by attaching a false bill dated 12th January 2019.
A similar case is of Sesadev Nath Sharma who died on 27th January, 2019 as per his death certificate issued by the CHC, Manijanaga, but the promised aid under the scheme had already been misappropriated in his name four months before his death.
The activist alleged that a racket has been running under their nose which has lead to the misappropriation of money amounting to thousands, but no action has yet been taken.
The villagers have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Odisha, 5T Secretary, Collector, and other higher authorities, but to no avail.
BDO Tirtol Ranjan Kumar Parida told LocalWire that a departmental inquiry has begun.
Notably, the Government of Odisha initiated the Harish Chandra Sahayata Yojana to provide financial assistance to the poor for conducting cremation. Under this scheme, the government provides a fund of Rs 2000 in the rural and Rs 3000 in the urban areas.
