Paradip, May 10 (LocalWire): Jagatsinghpur district administration on Sunday said it has directed all the industries having hazardous units to take necessary precautions to avert chemical disaster.
District collector Sangram Mohaptra conducted a review of different industries about the safety and maintenance of their ammonia and chlorine plants during the coronavirus lockdown.
The recent LG Polymers plant gas leakage in Visakhapatnam has prompted the authorities to take preventive measures as the port town of Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur district is home to different chemical plants.
The collector also interacted with government and officials of PPL, IFFCO, IOCL and other industries.

As many industries are not operating due to the lockdown, there is apprehension of gas leakage or burst during restarting of the operation.
It may be recalled that in November 1999 ammonia gas had leaked at Oswal Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd at Paradip after the super cyclone.
