Jajpur, October 21 (LocalWire): Routine daily activity in the district here was disrupted as the day began with a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the BJP to press for CBI probe into the death of Haridaspur panchayat executive officer Smitarani Biswal.
Slogan-shouting, pro-bandh activists blocked several roads by burning tyres, while they also picketed before different offices as most of the shops and business establishments downed their shutter on Monday.
Armed policemen were deployed across the district to maintain law and order.
The agitators also blocked the National Highways passing through the district disrupting the vehicular movement in the town that came to a grinding halt causing a problem to the commuters.
The PEO was found hanging in the guest house of Rupesh Bhadra, husband of Haridaspur Sarpanch Madhusmita Bhadra on 16 October.
Rupesh was arrested on charges of abetting the suicide.
Earlier, Smitarani’s family members had also alleged foul play and demanded a high-level probe into the incident.
