Jagatsinghpur, Oct 17 (LocalWire): Principal secretary for Rural Development cum Special Relief Commissioner Pradip Kumar Jena advised school teachers to improve the quality of education in primary and high school levels after he found out that the students are slow in mathematics and ignorant of multiplication tables.
During Jena’s two-day visit to Jagatsinghpur district, he visited several primary and high schools in Raghunathpur and Balikuda blocks and took up the mantle of a teacher at the government-run schools.
Yesterday, he visited the model school at Salijanga and interacted with students and teachers. He detected sub-standard construction in the newly-established school.
He also found that no art education lessons were written on the wall art to add wow factor, inspire learning and promote values and vision to the children.
Later, he also visited Khankarpur Primary school under Balikuda block and taught the students of class I and asked them some basic questions and multiplication table which the students answered correctly.
Similarly, he also taught class VIII students of Harekrushna Government High School in Barti under Raghunathpur block mathematics where out of 38 students, only 22 students were present.
He found the students had not memorized tables so he advised and guided teachers how to improve their teaching skills.
He also checked the students’ note books and corrected them and encouraged them to study well.
Notably, the average literacy rate of the district is 79.08 percent comprising 88.55 percent male literacy rate and 69.28 percent female literacy rate with a population of over 11, 72,427 according to the 2011 census.
This year, in the HSC examinations, the pass percentage was nearly 85 percent and the administration is trying to increase it to 90 to 95 percentage in the coming year.
People of the district praised the efforts of Jena to improve the district’s education system and many are now willing to voluntarily teach the students.
