Balangir, Dec 23 (LocalWire): Irate villagers today locked up two forest watchersin Thalbandh village, protesting against crop loss by a herd of elephants last night.
According to reports, a herd of eleven elephants from the Upperjhar forest area and damaging crops in Balangir forest range. These elephants were earlier in Deogaon forest range.
Last night, according to reports they damaged chillies cultivated by a farmer and also caused damage to the irrigation system.
The farmer called the two forest watchers and demanded higher compensation for the loss of crop but locked them in.
A team of forest officials from Balangir, Deogaon and Saintla range, besides police from Tusura police station rushed to free the men vbut in vain. Later, after a lot of deliberation, the men were released.
