Berhampur, August 24 (LocalWire): A 27-year-old pregnant woman delivered a baby girl by National Highway 16 at Kamapalli here on Friday.
K Parvati of Samantiapalli village under Patrapur block had travelled in a bus to Kamapalli for an ultrasound in a private diagnostic centre while her husband K Hare Krishna and son were following in a motorbike.
She was waiting for her husband when the labour pains started suddenly.
A junior doctor, who was on his way to MKCG Medical College here, saw her and stopped to deliver the baby with help from the staff of the diagnostic centre.
Both the mother and baby were then shifted to the medical college and hospital.
‘The woman and her newborn are undergoing treatment at the gynaecology ward and are in good condition,’ said the superintendent of MKCG Medical College, Charan Panda.
‘I saw the woman writhing in pain by the roadside on my way to the medical college. I delivered the baby safely with the help of diagnostic centre staff,’ said Sruti Ranjan Patnaik, the junior resident said.
This was the woman’s third issue and she might have delivered pre-mature, Patnaik added.
Her husband reached after she had delivered the child.
