Berhampur, June 11 (LocalWire): Congress leader and outgoining MLA (Paralakhemundi) K Surya Rao on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the party and blaming the party leadership in the state for his defeat.
Rao sent his resignation letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik.
Rao said he would chalk out his future plan after consulting his supporters.
‘I will visit the villages in my constituency and seek the opinion of the people as well as my supporters before taking any step’ he said after resigning from the party.
In his resignation letter, he said he was ignored by the partyand though it was declared earlier that all the sitting MLAs would get the party ticket, his name was confirmed on the last day of filling the nomination paper.
‘I was not allowed sufficient scope for campaigning and my opponents capitalised the situation.
It also gave a wrong signal to the party as well as the voters of the constituency,’ he said.
He said no star campaigner of the party came to campaign for him although
his Opposition had bigwigs campaigning for them, he added.
Rao defeated BJD’s K Narayan Rao in 2014 who won this year after joining the BJP as he was denied the ticket by the ruling party.
