Bhawanipatna, Feb 16 (LocalWire) Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday visited Junagarh and Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi districts to attend public meetings and launch a slew of projects.
Patnaik began his one-day visit to Kalahandi by addressing ‘Mishran Parba’, a public meeting, at Biju Patnaik Stadium in Junagarh.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) sources said around 10,000 Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers officially joined Patnaik’s party at the event.
Later in the day, the CM inaugurated the 768.46 crore Ret Medium Irrigation project that is expected to benefit 79 villages in four blocks of the district.
Patnaik reached Shrikrushna Nagar of Bhawanipatna in the afternoon to address ‘Mission Shakti’ conclave where he distributed seed money to around 11,122 women members of Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Appeasing the youth, the BJD supremo said all efforts will be taken to grant Unitary University status to Bhawanipata Government Autonomous College.
He also assured a fund allocation of Rs. 5 crore for Government Women’s College, Bhawanipatna, which will be used for starting Science stream and setting up infrastructure for the same, including laboratory.
