Bhubaneswar, March 7 (LocalWire): The BJD government has broken all rules to keep its flagship KALIA scheme well-funded in its desperation to win voters, the Congress alleged on Thursday.
Odisha Congress president Niranjan Patnaik claimed that “Despite fund crunch for pre-existing schemes, the government went ahead with KALIA, and diverted the contingency funds for the purpose.”
“In first phase, Rs.764 crores were diverted from contingency fund for KALIA, and now in second phase, again Rs. 510 crores have been siphoned off. This shows the real face of Naveen Patnaik,” he alleged.
He claimed that though the state’s debt burden has been rising alarmingly, and likely to hit the Rs.95,000 crore mark, BJD is trying its best to woo voters by distributing money openly.
“This time, though, they are doing it officially, through schemes like KALIA. This is a clear violation of rules,” he alleged.
He said that it has also targeted the farmers’ welfare fund for its nefarious gain.
“This government, which had forgotten farmers’ issues in last 19 years, has suddenly woken up a few days before elections to announce the KALIA scheme,” he said.
“When the common man is heavily burdened with taxes, BJD and BJP governments are misusing funds to gain voters. Common man should understand their hidden agenda,” Patnaik said in a press release.
“BJD knows it’s going to lose in elections, so they are announcing schemes without planning and funds. Even BJP has transferred Rs.2,000 in bank accounts of some voters in a bid to win elections,” he said.
