Berhampur, March 25 (Local Wire): The Berhampur police on Monday arrested a groom who had arranged a reception party days after his marriage and allowed assembly of people at his village.
The groom hailed from Nuapada under Kandhamal district’s Phirnigia police station limits.
The arrested groom was identified as Parameswar Bhukta (26) of Nuapada, inspector in-charge, Phiringia P Shyam Sundar Rao said.
Bhukta was married to a girl in a remote village under Tikabali police station limits on Sunday, he said.
Despite the government order of maintaining social distance and to avoid congregation by avoiding social functions to fight against COVID 19, Bhukta was arranging a big marriage reception function at his residence. At the time of police raids, around 80 people were gathered at his residence, he said.
Police said prior to the marriage and arranging marriage reception, he did not take permission from the district administration.
He was arrested under Section 188 of IPC (violation of order promulgated by government), he said. Since the bride was in the house, police said they did not take any action against her.
